Our mission at the Oklahoma City Review is to shine a light on local businesses. Whether it is delicious cuisine, unique vendors, beautiful boutiques, and everything in between we want to show off how awesome our great community really is. With that being said we have recently come across a local moving company based out of Oklahoma City that we are absolutely in love with. These guys are family owned and it shows in their work, from beginning to end. Our newfound favorite movers are the wonderful folks over at Strong Brothers Movers.
Now, let's be honest shall we? We absolutely HATE moving and everything it entails. Having to bribe your friends with beer and pizza just so they will come and endure the pain along your side, throwing out your back in the name of friendship is not ideal for most of us. Growing up I myself probably moved with my parents at least 5-6 times and then another 3 or 4 times as an adult. Needless to say, I have had my fair share of moving experiences and I can finally say I have found the solution! These boys at Strong Brothers are legit the real deal. Family owned, locally owned and operated, members of the community, and they even give back to their community. Did we mention they come to your house and pick up the boxes and move them for you? We are in love!
So let's break it down for our readers. Why do you want to use a moving company?
First things first, they are professionals and know exactly what they are doing. Whether you need to move to Edmond, Norman, Tulsa, or all the way to New England, they know exactly what process to execute, what route to take, packing techniques, the whole nine yards. The last thing you want in a moving company is a group of amateurs that toss your boxes around, hardly package them up correctly, or worse you could get robbed by a group of guys posing to be movers.
Strong Brothers Movers tells us this, "Integrity is at the core of what we do. We understand that other peoples personal belongings and heirlooms are in our care and it is a major responsibility to keep these things safe. The first thing we always want to ensure is safety and getting the client moved in a timely manner." It is this type of attitude that has us swooning for their services. These guys very well could be the best OKC moving company, but we understand claims like that are far too bold to throw around willy nilly.
The other great thing? You don't even need to pack your items, they will do it for you. WHAT??? These guys are just movers, they are packers and wrappers too. (I like the sound of that by the way.). So even if you don't have a single ounce of moving materials do not worry, these guys will come to the house, wrap everything in plastic or blankets, put it all in boxes, seal it up tight, carefully move it on and off the trucks, and place it inside your new home, all for an extremely reasonable price.
The bottom line is this my beautiful friends. Strong Brothers is the real deal whenever you need a moving company. Whether its residential or commercial, across the hall or across the country, these guys will more than get it done.
We have all heard "Home on the range" right? You know that line "...where the deer and the antelope play." Well here in Oklahoma we are particularly fond of the Buffalo, or Bison if that's what you are into. Have you ever been up close and personal with a buffalo by the way? Those suckers are big! Anyway... we aren't here to talk to you about wildlife, rather we want to shine a light on a local OKC business that uses that wonderful animal in their title. We are talking about a new OKC digital marketing agency that specializes in local SEO and social media management, Red Buffalo Media.
Red Buffalo Media is a small but powerful marketing agency owned by an Oklahoma home grown all around fun guy named Dustin Kemp, and you all know just how much we love a good made in Oklahoma story. Most of you probably know the benefits of using an agency like this, but for those that do not lets break it down shall we?
If you are a small business owner you probably want everyone to know about what you do, what you sell, what you make, etc... Well you can have a huge friends list, be a member of the community and even volunteer at the soup kitchen on the weekends, but methods like this will only get you so far in terms of spreading the word about your business. Thats where a marketing agency comes in. These guys are so useful and beneficial because they are familiar with the Google algorithm, the Facebook algorithm, they understand effective advertising strategies, and what really takes them over the top is their local SEO knowledge, or Search Engine Optimization. Kemp and his crew are very skilled at what they do and have a proven track record of taking businesses to new heights after taking over their marketing efforts.
But let's be honest with each other. You never want a business relationship to be solely based on their ability. You probably would like to enjoy who you work with, and having an enjoyable relationship with them. This is a big reason why we love Red Buffalo Media so much because of how easy they are to work with and their communication skills are second to none. As a business owner you don't want to go home at night telling yourself "well yeah my rankings are moving up and the social media is gaining traction, but man I can't stand that guy and he is so hard to get ahold of." Because even though you're ranking up, you have a bad taste in your mouth and that just makes for a bad time.
So here's the deal. We have seen these guys run effective social media management campaigns, we have seen them take websites from page 6 of a google search all the way to page 1, and we have even witnessed them re design an entire website for a business and these guys do incredible work. We asked Kemp what makes his company different and he had this to say. "We believe small business owners never want to hear from an outside 'hey I can do better than you' and so our approach is very measured and calculated to ensure the owners don't feel like they are being sold, rather we are merely showing our expertise and just exactly how we can help them." Later he also commented that what makes his company incredible valuable is their expertise with local SEO. In layman's terms, they are highly effective at ranking a website for search terms such as "OKC dentist" or "Plumbers in Edmond." If you aren't easily found on the web, you are definitely going to have a hard time getting new customers to use your product or service.
Let's land this plane. If you are a business owner and you truly want to focus on running your business and you want a highly effective team to lead your marketing efforts, digital, print, and everything in between, then you definitely need to give the guys at Red Buffalo Media a call. Tell em the OKC review sent ya and you'll get a month completely free. These guys offer a no nonsense approach, they are made in Oklahoma, and Kemp is a genuinely fun guy to be around. We can't think of a better combination. As always, shop local as often as you can, and let us know anytime you find a business you want us to shine a light on.
Oklahoma City residents have plenty to look forward to each year. The Thunder bringing their A game to the Peake, Trans-Siberian Orchestra bringing down the house every December, and that warm summertime air mixed with food trucks and tasty cold beer. Of course I am talking about the monthly event we all know and love as "H&8th". I myself have a liking for cold beer, tasty food, summer time, and meeting new people, so H&8th is absolutely the spot for me. My friends, if you are looking for something to do at least once a month this year while the weather allows for it, you absolutely need to do yourself a favor and head out to H&8th, just make sure you invite me along with.
When H&8th was founded back in 2011 it was just a small setup with just a few trucks and just a few more people. In 2014 it grew to become the nations largest food truck festival drawing in crowds upwards of 40,000 during the month. The name H&8th is actually cleverly drawn from the events location, which is centered around Hudson Avenue (H) and NW 8th street (8th). Of course, there is far more to this event other than just one little intersection. Other than incredible food and cold drinks this is actually a nice place for singles to go out and mingle. Just think about it. Summertime means everyone is on their A game, good food, cold drinks, music, the atmosphere is ripe for starting something new and exciting with maybe your future boo thang! Just make sure they don't become your future EX because then I will feel as though I have contributed to the wreckage and I can't live with that on my conscious.
Anybody that knows midtown should know that you cannot have a massive food truck festival without tasty craft beers, and thankfully Anthem Brewing Co. delivers the goods at H&8th. If you have never heard of Anthem its probably because you don't venture off the rails very much when it comes to your beer of choice, or maybe you aren't a local. I personally do not know much about Anthems history but I do know that they have a loyal following, a couple really attractive sales associates, and a tremendously adorable dog named Tank. In any case, if an event like H&8th decides to mark you down as the premier go to vendor for brewskis, then you must be doing something right.
Do you want to know the best thing about this event? It is completely not for profit and volunteer organized event. Awesome right? This whole ordeal was started by a woman named Laura Massenat and the entire goal was to bring people together for a good time, but also so they could see the up and coming midtown area and all that it had to offer. For you hipsters and green thinking individuals, they also offer bicycle valet. So pedal your way down to H&8th and have your bike valet parked. I think its safe to say that whether you are single and ready to mingle, or whether you and your special someone just want a place to go have a drink and wind down, H&8th should absolutely be on your list of things to do and places to go. Just tell em The Review sent you, and as always OKC, Stay Classy!
If you or someone you know has ever purchased a car in the Oklahoma City market you are probably well aware that their is an abundance of choices. Buying a car for some of you probably brings out a rather less than pleasant side of you, and for others you love that feeling of signing the dotted line so you can rush out and smell that new car smell and cruise your way home. In any case, buying a car in OKC can be overwhelming due to all the choices. The ORR Autogroup has recently decided to give you a couple less choices when searching for a new or pre-owned vehicle with the acquisition of Hudiburg Nissan on I-240 and Shields.
Hudiburg Nissan has stood tall at its former location for a number of years, serving the community very well during its time there, and now the ORR Autogroup wants to keep that same tradition alive as they usher in a new era of car buying in the Oklahoma City market. The Orr group first stepped foot into the market with the purchase of David Stanley Kia, which has been known as Boomer Kia for the last few years. They took that store and turned it around over the course of about a year and a half and now its become a very successful Kia dealership. Around Mid year 2018 the Orr group purchased 2 twin Nissan Stores, Fenton Nissan East and Fenton Nissan West, which are now aptly named Orr Nissan East and West. The East location is in Del City while the West location is in western OKC on Northwest Expressway which gives Orr the outside OKC Nissan territory all to themselves. Now lets fast forward to January 2019.
January 3rd, 2019 was the last day that Hudiburg Nissan operated as they completed the Buy/Sell with Orr. On that day we welcomed in the 3rd Orr Nissan store which is named Orr Nissan Central. Located at the same location, with about 99% the same exact staff that you are used to dealing with, Orr Nissan Central is excited and ready to show the Oklahoma City market what buying a Nissan can be like when it's done the "Orr way". Minority owner and General Manager Aaron Leger has been with the Orr group for more than 10 years and he brought the Orr name to OKC with Boomer Kia. He knows the market and he understands why selling a Nissan in Oklahoma City is much different than selling a Nissan in Louisiana.
Buying a car does not have to suck despite what many consumers might think and these men and women inside the Orr Group want to ensure that you have the absolute best time when you are buying your next new or pre-owned vehicle. They bring with them over 60 years of dealership experience, more than 39 total dealerships of which 14 are Nissan franchises. Needles to say, these guys know Nissan and they know the car business. So even though you might miss that classic jingle *I-240 and shields* we here at The Review truly believe that you cannot go anywhere else have a better time buying a car. So whether its Orr Nissan West, East, Central, or Boomer Kia make sure to tell em The Review sent you. Until next time boys and girls, stay classy!
If there is one thing that I can confidently tell strangers and friends alike, it is that I know my food. I am no acclaimed food critic, I don't plan on being Ree Drummond's right hand man anytime soon, but gosh darn it I know good food when I taste it. Italian, Mexican, Japanese, Chinese, American, Greek, you name it and I will more than likely try anything once....or twenty times. But folks, we all need to sit down and talk about a restaurant that I recently discovered and I wish I had known about it my whole life. I'm talking about a place in the Paseo District (surprised?) called Oso, and it is Oh, So Good! See what I did there? Anyway, lets chat.
Oso is considered a taqueria but boy oh boy, you have never been to a taqueria like this one before. We are talking about a place that serves burnt end tacos... Are you kidding me?!? Burnt ends have been my favorite BBQ treat for years, but now you are telling me I can have them in a taco? Count me all the way in! But this place is much more than Tacos, and this is where we insert their wonderful street corn. Described as "roasted off the cob", this stuff is INCREDIBLE!! Absolutely the best street corn I have ever tasted in my life. I haven't traveled the world and sampled all the street corns, but rest assured I have had my fair share and this stuff is to die for!
The atmosphere of Oso is another feather in the hat of success. This wonderful taqueria has what I would call a chic atmosphere, while keeping it very modern and practical for a dining establishment. An open ceiling concept has wooden rafters overhead making the room feel much bigger than expected. High back chairs, booths with pillows in place, a bar that not only looks awesome but serves incredible cocktails, and a surprisingly friendly blue bear looking in on guests. But don't worry this particular bear is oddly shaped and doesn't have an appetite for humans, or anything for that matter.
The Paseo district in Oklahoma City has roots back to the 1920's whenever the area was developed. The arts have always been the centerpiece to The Paseo, whether it be visual, performing, or the culinary variety, which is how our friends at Oso fit in. Every year usually in May the Paseo Arts Festival is held for 3 days showcasing the areas top artists, performers, food vendors and more. With establishments much like Oso Paseo coming to the district and offering up such tasty items, guests are sure to have an amazing time during the Festival, as well as other times throughout the year. Just be sure you tell them Dan from the OKC Review sent you.
So in closing lets recap on a few things that are definitely worth remembering. If you like BBQ and you enjoy burnt ends, you'll love these tacos about as much as Russ loves wearing high water pants and a multi-colored sport coat. The street corn at Oso does not have anything clever that I can compare it to. It is just that good folks. The atmosphere here will have you staying and chatting long after your meal is over. Just be sure you tip your wait staff a little extra if you do decide to stay, because you know, that how they make a living and such. Stay tuned for much more from us at The Review. In the meantime stay classy!
